Shoe Stretching

Sometimes the shoe doesn't fit... but I buy it anyway. Tisk tisk. That was the case with these. Apparently I told myself that an American size 9 really is a European 39, and that they'd stretch. Evidently I like to lie to myself. After a particularly painful day of toe smashing walking on Via Monte Napoleone, they went into early retirement. I was on the brink of giving up and consigning them, and in a last saving effort googled how to stretch shoes. It worked.

How to stretch your shoes

Materials: 4 plastic sandwich baggies, water

1) Identify culprit

2) Fill 2 plastic baggies halfway with water

3) Seal plastic baggies, removing as much air as possible. Then double bag the water baggy (as a precaution - shoes aren't known for their swimming or wicking properties)

5) Insert the baggies into your shoes

 6) Place shoes in the freezer. Yep. Shoe popsicles. When the water freezes it will expand and thus stretch your shoes.

Veni, Fodi (I bought), Vici.

Hope this helps!

  4. Most of my shoes are a pinch too tight*, I'll have to try this out and see if it works!

*Not because I'm crazy, but because most shoe designers don't make a 10 1/2. Giant feet.
